RLS focused guide for prompts

1. INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES TO THE GENERATION OF KNOWLEDGE

Suggested Areas of Knowledge (AoKs): Mathematics and Natural Sciences; History and Natural Sciences or Ethics

  • Quality of knowledge: It may be defined as the accuracy, utility, or positive externality of knowledge. Given that definition, knowledge with high quality will have more value, or be more accurate, than lower quality knowledge
  • Directly proportional: If two things are directly proportional, then the change of one will be accompanied by a change in the other by a constant value.
  • Historical Development: The duration of time invested in improving something. In the case of this title, the duration of time invested in improving an academic discipline.

2. CONFIDENCE AND KNOWLEDGE; WITH KNOWLEDGE DOUBT INCREASES (GOETHE QUOTE)

Suggested AoKs: Natural Sciences and History; Ethics and Human Sciences

  • Confidence: The feeling derived from a sense of certainty.
  • Doubt: The feeling derived from a sense of doubt.
  • Knowledge: There are many ways to define knowledge. One common knowledge definition is ‘justified true belief’.

3. ASSUMPTION OF EXISTENCE OF UNIFORMITIES FOR KNOWLEDGE

Suggested AoKs: Natural Sciences and Mathematics; Natural Sciences and Human Sciences

  • Uniformity: Bedrock of knowledge, that remains relatively unchanged. May be quite stringent requirement.

4. SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF IS ESSENTIAL

Suggested AoKs: Human sciences and Ethics; Religious knowledge systems and Indigenous knowledge systems; History

5. HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF DISCIPLINE, DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE DURATION QUALITY OF KNOWLEDGE GENERATED

Suggested AoKs: Natural Sciences and Human Sciences; History and Natural Sciences; History and The Arts

  • Quality of knowledge: Value derived from the knowledge. Truth factor of knowledge.
  • Directly proportional: When one increases the other increases by an equally proportionate amount.
  • Historical Development : The amount of time that has passed since the attainment of knowledge.

6. ROBUST KNOWLEDGE AND DISAGREEMENT

Suggested AoKs: Natural Sciences and Human Sciences

  • Consensus: means when people are of the same opinion, or have the same belief
  • Disagreements: occur when people have conflicting beliefs.
  • Knowledge: ‘justified true belief’
  • Robust Knowledge: ‘robust’ implies strength and permanency, will be assumed to mean something that is particularly true and less likely to change in terms of validity with time
